That install looks pretty good. I am starting to think I really need to step up and get me a set.

Hey Chief 101, I think I am in your neck of the woods right now, I have been in Meridian since Jan 9th, and will be until March 17th. Maybe a face-to-face one of these weekends?

Sorry 'bout the hijack Lube...

Originally posted by nautiJohn:
Spego;

I will let Bassin Fever answer but as I recall his original set up without the Mobster Tabs was a 23 pitch prop which gave him 58 MPH MAX. Last I heard he was running a 25 pitch and at about 63 MPH with a hole shot that was 3.5 sec. Previously the hole shot was 7.0 sec.

The tabs will not only cut the hole shot in half but allow you to prop up for more speed at the top end.
Add a jack plate and low water pickup he would likely be able to use a 27p 4 blade and get a few more mph.

Ive concidered what you say, but I dont think that I can do it because of the way the cables come out of the boat. The way I see it, it would put a bit of a bind in the steering. You can sort of see what Im seeing in the second picture above.

JasonJ, you would be in Chief's neck of the woods. You can call him at 888-5906. I'm sure you can work something out. ;)

I'm surprised you were able to get that any sort of good handling out of that old Tracker fiberglass. Those in the know I've talked to say those old Tracker 17-18 foot fiberglass boats with the 150's on them were difficult to get any sort of consistant handling out of.

I dont know what you mean buy "Consistant handling"????????? I am very happy with the way this boat performs espesially with the smart tabs, but it didnt really have any real issues before I put them on. It is an entry level boat for sure, but is has no bad habbits that I can see. I have never been sorry I bought it. Its kicked the b*tt of a few newer boats of about the same size, (Much to the owners dismay)! But thats just because of the Smart tabs and the time I have spent setting it up. I am now thinking about a bigger boat, but only because I am doing some guiding now and need more room.

Thanx, I'll see how it acts in the water tomorrow. I think I'll have to call about the tabs though. I'm over powered for a small boat. How can I post a pic of it by the way. I've been refurbishing this skeeter for 4months now, and its starting to look real good in the driveway. I even polished all my hinges. Thanx again.

Not sure if ladano has looked at his transom. Lube_dude has convinced me that I need some of those, but, I have a 98 skeeter and I just don't see how a person could install them?
I only have 2" of vertical transom area on each side.
Where would the shock/strut mechanism mount?
John? LubeDude? any ideas?

You may be right, those newer skeeters have an unusual transom for sure. Could you post some pictures of it?

Re: Smart Tabs, Bass boat "UPDATE"

I'll try to figure out how to post some pics. I see a way it could be done, but, would take some body work to those big "things" that protrude from each side of the transom.
I'd have to cut big notches in them. Not beyond me to do that, but, probably not for the faint of heart. Lots of work.
I'm sure they are filled with floatation, and I'd almost do it just to get rid of that stuff.
They protrude from the transom on each side. I'd think there is still transom back in behind them though. (almost have to be??).

Re: Smart Tabs, Bass boat "UPDATE"

Stern Sponsons
The Stern Sponsons provide additional buoyancy aft of the engine mounting surface which allows a level resting position. Because the boat is floating level at rest and the lift created while getting on plane, hole time shots are greatly improved. The additional buoyancy raises the aft of the boat faster reducing the amount of backwash which negates the need for a splashwell.
When fishing, a fisherman needs to be able to move about without causing the boat to pitch and sway from the change in weight and balance. One of the many purposes of the sponsons is that they act as pontoons on either side of the aft of the boat, preventing extreme side-to-side motions; in fact, they keep the platform of the boat so stable that a man can step from one side of the rear fishing platform to the other without any noticeable rocking of the boat.

Stern Sponsons and Turning Chines. (sounds like sumpin gatorred would say?).
Some of that marketing explaination is true. Boat doesn't rock around much when going from side to side.
No need for a splash well? I'll argue that one. You sure can't drop it off of plane without a throttle "bump".
hehehehehe....no splash well means YOU will get soaked in the driver seat if you turn the engine off while running 60mph. (live and learn...lol)

Re: Smart Tabs, Bass boat "UPDATE"

On the new Skeeter site, they show a boat going flat out and the pull the kill switch, little if any water comes over the back on this new boat.

All Bass boats I have ever seen will back wash badly. With the Smart Tabs on my boat now I get none.. When the boat stops, the tabs go down and it just gently rocks the back of the boat up. No backwash at all.

  I LOVE MY SMART TABS

Re: Smart Tabs, Bass boat "UPDATE"

Well Fri. I got mine out in the water. The throttle cable was nearly frozen. I could barely get it above idle. It fishtails severly while idleing around. Is it two much weight for a small boat? I'm ordering new cables in the morning.
