My boat is a Crestliner TS 172 with carpet over wood decking. The carpet is good but I thought about having it sprayed with a Rhino liner type of material. Carpet in a fishing boat doesn't make much sense to me. What is a good solvent to help remove carpet glue?

well laquer thinner and acetone are pretty tough, is the plywood glaased over? then muratic acid may be better. some 80 grit on a DA is always a good way to go

Re: Removing carpet

There's a carpet and tile adhesive remover sold at hardware stores that I believe is a strip-ease product. Brush it on, cover with visqueen, wait about 20 minutes, then scrape off. If the glue isn't too thick, it works great-at least on my aluminum boat. I had areas where the glue was so thick I had to grind ot off. Absolute pain in the rear.

Oh yeah, and I'm about to paint it with a "rhino-liner" type material called Durabak. Seems like great stuff and comes in a variety of colors.

Re: Removing carpet

you may be able to sand glue off if you going to spray with rhino-liner.i had rino liner stuff in my last truck sure gets hot in the summer.a lot hotter than a painted surface just something to think about.i wish there was something you could put in a fishing boat besides carpet i notice the new ranger boats have a padded front carpeted deck that would be nice.

Thanks for the replies. 2manyboats, I would be curious to know how your project turns out. I feel like the Rhino/Durabak material would be the way to go.

Re: Removing carpet

Ya might consider replacing the carpet or some of it with outdoor- -a light color for less heat. Tack it down with only a few ss screws/washers. Then take it out when needed and pressure wash, scrub etc. or just go get another piece and replace it in a few minutes
Snap fastners work well also. The as a family boat place the carpet in . Take it out to fish.

Uncle Dave
