Hi
after putting in the new transom, I now must drill holes in the boat to accomodate the transom adapter on my jet drive.

I have read to drill, fill the holes with epoxy , and then drill again? does that mean I have to drill oversize?
can I just coat the bolts in epoxy mixed with cabosil and run them through?
or can I just coat the inside of the holes with epoxy and then run the bolts through when it dries?
drilling oversize is problematic because I will have to enlarge the holes on the transom adaptor, which I don't want to do.
if it matters I have to drill 12 holes.

thanks

Re: drilling holes/ new transom

Why would you drill the adapter oversize? You should be able to drill the transom oversize fill the holes and redrill at the proper size and leave the adapter as is. If you are using the adapter as a drill guide then clamp it up, drill the proper size holes through the transom, remove the adapter and enlarge the holes in the transom with a bigger bit.

I really like that method although any of them would work more or less. The thicker the epoxy the less likely it would wear through and allow water into the wood.

Drill the holes, coat with epoxy (why not factor, seals the newly exposed interior surfaces), apply appropriate exterior sealer and install.

Re: drilling holes/ new transom

Josh,

The instruction I have gotten are:

Drill holes, coat the inside of the holes with epoxy and let cure, fit bolts, sand hole if required for bolt to fit. Put marine caulk in and around the hole before securing bolts.

Hope this helps. This is for mounting an outboard to a transom, I would image it is similar for a Jet drive.

Peace.

Ed.
