Hi all,
I was given a 1976 Ensenada 20 Sail boat (20 footer). The boat is in good structural condition, but cosmetically it need some serious work. I have a couple restoration questions.

I did a little research here and it sems that Interlux brightside is highly recommended. The boat will be trailer. A gallon covers 550 sq/ft.

a. How do I go about calculating the hull square footage? The hull is very curvy?
b. For Brightside do you prime twice and paint twice?
c. For the interior of the cabin, what paint would you recommend? The surface is not currently painted.
d. The hull is 30 years old. Is there any concern that fiberglass will deteriate with time?
Thanks.

Re: Sail boat project

nightvision:
There's a lot of information to cover there. I ordered a copy of "Don Casey's Complete Illustrated Sailboat Maintenance Manual", Casey and Compton. This book will be a great reference as you embark on your project. I ordered mine from Amazon, for about 40 bucks. It's already paid for itself in the money I didn't spend foolishly.
The interlux website does have a paint calculator in it somewhere if you plug in your length and beam.
Best of luck with the restoration.

sounds like a great project, and you will be proud when you're gone. had a catalina 26,shipped it to florida 20 years ago, loved it. fell ill for a good spell and had to give it up. dock fees ate me alive while ill. sailed it to be bahamas, and every weekend. enjoy!

Re: Sail boat project

If going over old gelcoat you can do Brightsides over it without a primer. Do the "roll and tip" method. If keeping the same color 2 coats will be ok.
