Found a deal i thought was decent..<br /> This guy has a 14' lund for sale.. Looks to have fallen off the trailer and taken some front end damage.. Says the motor doesnt run.. but includes a decent trolling motor with foot controls, trailer will haul it, pedestal seats, and 2 cusioned seats, live well..Just very neglected. He wants 400 for it, but im thinking of offering 300. I have no idea what it will take to get the motor running, but if i cant, maybe i can part it out. It's an 18 horse evinrude. Mid 80's vintage possibly.. Well here are the pics, and any advice would be great.. Thanks!!<br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-015F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-014F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-013F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-011F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-010F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-009F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-008F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-007F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-006F.jpg <br /><br /> http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e224/drkilldrmz/MVC-005F.jpg

at 300 i don't believe you are goin to get hurt. the trailer is worth 2/300. the bow looks like the rest of the boat Neglected. looks like he didn't care where he beached it or how hard. rocks, stumps. the 18 restored will push it pretty well. i pushing a 14' LoneStar with a '55 15 hp rude. plenty fast with 2 people, tooooo fast with just me.

Yeah..Im not scared of putting in some elbow grease.. ANd if the Rude just wont run, i do have a yamaha 6 horse i could put on it.. No speed demon, but if it came up to plane, maybe you wouldn't see the bow damage...Has a bilge pump also..I don't know how bad the carpet in it is..definately needs cleaning.. Probably replacement.

I agree that you probably can't go too wrong with the boat. Lunds are pretty well built and can take a beating. It probably leaks a bit. It should cleanup nice.<br /><br />The trailer is too short for that boat. I disagree with the value of the trailer. It is for something very small. Maybe a 10' boat or PWC. <br /><br />I would assume the engine has little to no value. The trailer probably has a little value to right person. The boat is probably worth $200. Offer the owner $200 cash and see if he takes it. He may just want out of his yard.

how much tongue is in front of the bow stop? it looks like it may have been move back to make it more balanced and easlier to lift the tongue. can the bow stop be moved forward?

If you have problems with the 'Rude check in on the JohnnyRude Troubles forum. We can fix (explain to you how to fix) anything.<br /><br />Sounds like a good deal to me.

Re: should i buy this..

Ive been lurking around these boards for a few years now, and i know how helpfull you guys are. Fishingdan.. You are correct.. The trailer is too small for the boat. It was modified to hold a 14'. Looks like it can be functional though.. To me it almost looks like the front of the boat was re-welded after it fell from the trailer while in motion.. Doesn't appear too leaky from what i can see under the snow i dug out..I will offer him 200 tonight, but if he beats me up for 300, i will still take it.. Just because it says lund on it, and the trolling motor looks pretty good with foot controls. SamSam.. 5 degrees this morning.. But i have an ice fishing tourney this weekent..30000 for the biggest togue on sebago lake. The motor spins, but i haven't checked for spark..I don't know how it will be affected by sitting on it's face for x# of years, but i will definately need the experts when i post in the Rude forum.. Thanks guys..

The motor is an early 70 ties - they were good motors. If its fresh water, free turning with compression, its definately fixupable. They were fine smooth running motors, almost everlasting.

For $200-300 you are on the water fishing provided the engine runs or can be made to run easily. I think that's a good deal.<br /><br />My trailer for my 14'er is a similar setup except my wooden bunks are longer and they tilt backwards when loading and unloading the boat.

Go for it. If all else fails with it, just make your very own artificial reef in your favorite fishing spot!

That looks like a 15" transom (sort of hard to tell, but it "seems" like it. The engine (early 70s I think) is a longshaft for a 20" transom. So you may want to convert that for a start. If the engine has good compression it's usually worth while to fix em up, especially if you can wrench it yourself. Parts are cheap.

Re: should i buy this..

I would bet my life on that motor being 1971 vintage.<br /><br /><br />Like others have said.......Lund is a sturdy reliable boat, and at $2-300 its not a big risk. Aluminum boats in these parts sell anywhere from $600 to $1000 for just a plain boat and nothing else cept for maybe a trailer. (but here boats are pretty well overpriced)<br /><br />Prime example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/LUND...ryZ63727QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I don't know anything about the value of aluminum boats. But my assessment is that the boat is more than neglected.... more like abused.<br /><br />So, if it's what you want, go for it. Just be aware that probably everthing needs repair, replacing or maintenance of some sort. And I agree it probably does leak. If it dropped or twisted, then many of the rivits could have loosened and that means a continous battle with leaks. <br /><br />There is a name for a boat like that. It's called a "headache".

Re: should i buy this..

Well.. You guys are a well informed bunch, and after consideration, i gave him 300 for everything. Took the merc apart last night and totally cleaned the carbs. looks very clean inside..Getting bright blue spark also.. Im pretty pumped about that. The trolling motor it came with is a minn kota foot controlled 40lb thrust that works good. Wired for lights, though i think i will re-wire everything.. Bilge pump, and 2 decent swivel seats are there also. Neglected yes.. Fixxer upper.. you bet!! If all else fails.. i know i can double my $ on this one. However.. One of the leaf springs on the trailer broke on the trip home leaving me stranded and embarrased on the side of the road.. and stupidly no registered trailer. Had it towed back home for a 50 spot. I am positive that motor will run after doing the steps in reviving an old outboard..It is a 1971 18 horse. Thanks for the advise.. I feel pretty good about getting it so far..

" ... Fixxer upper.. you bet!! "<br /><br />After you get it all set up mechanically, stop at the library and get a book on aluminum bodywork. You can probably work out some of the "ball peen hammer" look on the bow with a little practice with a wood mallet and a sand bag. If you don't have a hand anvil, pic one up at the tool store, they are cheap and will make re-setting some of those loose rivets easy.<br /><br />Good luck. Hope you get that motor humming. I do think that $300 was good price all and all.
