My good friend Eggkr8 has done it to me again (I don't think he ever works...just hangs out on craigslist.com) Because of him, I now am the owner of a 1976 Glasstron V162 Futura (orange and white). Sweet looking boat...great lines..and with the 65HP Johnson on it...it should move.
Link to brochure.

Wife NOT HAPPY that I now have 3 boats in the back yard and has given me a week (or so) to get rid of one of them.

I have decided to strip the Silverline of any usable hardware etc and rebuild the Glasstron.(Glasstron didn't come with an OB, has a lower leg to to 50hp merc...but no powerhead). Glasstron will definitely need floors and transom so it will be about the same amount of work as the Silverline (which I removed floor - stringers could use to be replaced and the jury was still out on transom).

I will start a shareproject with pictures and progress as soon as I can.

If anybody wants to save a 1972 Silverline hull from being chopped up and brought to the dump..email me justmrwill [at] yahoo.com.

Wish me luck.

Update:

Glastron
Removed the Mercury OB and transom mounts and found REALLY mushy transom on the inside. Looks like this will be a total re-hab (floor, transom, stringers). Gotta put it on hold until Regal in wet..that (hopefully) will be next week.

Silverline
After spending a nice freezing rain/snow Saturday last weekend (and with ALOT of help from Eggkr8) it is no more. Today, loaded into truck and spend ~$25 to dispose of it at the dump.

Will be posting progress picks...well...once there is some progress...wish me luck.

-JMW

They come apart a whole lot easier than they go together!! Guess it was a good sign that this wasn't the hull you wanted to do a restoration!

I still think the glasstron will be a quick restore
good luck

At the helm was a neoprene maniquin...it was on the boat when I went to look at it..(those pictures are from the for sale add)...I didn't take it with me.

No kelping this weekend...too busy firing up the Regal...doing some maint on it...and next step is to add the Pertronix upgrade .

Egg,
Any progress on your lawn ornament? (we need some pics too!!)

-JMW

Re: 76 Glastron v162 (06-18-2006 Update)

Visually, no progress on my Glassmaster. However, in the depths of my basement, I got the gauges all rewired and back together, the bow light/purgee restoration is almost done, the outdrive is stripped and ready for paint and I need a nice day to glass the new wood onto the bottom of the 'hood'.

The it's fixing my sexy new trailer so I can tow the boat to my brother-in laws body shop and get some serious work going!

Depends on how you measure it... basically the same rules to measure your Northwestern snipe!

Re: 76 Glastron v162 (06-18-2006 Update)

Hi Mark,

Slow but sure! I am estimating about 40 ours to go on it. Major things are pulling the engine and through hull parts of the outdrive, rebuild engine and paint. Mostly everything else is GTG.

The kelping on it has cerainly slowed since the baby!

e

OK. Started a ShareAProject...

http://www.shareaproject.com/pages/projectTut,p,236,00.html

I have to level out the landscape timbers she is sitting on and then I will get to work with the grinder. Most of the floor is gonna just get scooped out it seems. I should have her empty and the demolition started this/next week.

-JMW
