I have two things I want to put a waterproof seal on and with the dozens of choices to use I don't know which is best. First is the access panel to the gas tank on the floor of my fishing boat. It has about a 5/16 gap that appears to have clear silicone in it now and I want to take out and put a new bead around it. The second is two port holes that have plexiglass windows that lay flat against the gelcoat are covered by stainless trim rings. I think the first I need a sealant, but the second I think I will need a adhesive/sealant.. Any thoughts?

I would think that Dupont 4200 would be a Good Choice for Both applications..........

What about 3M 5200 ? I have heard alot about it. The only thing is that it might be too strong...

If you EVER want to remove the part,.....5200 Isn't what you want.....<br /><br />It's VERY Permanent.....<br /><br />That's why I said 4200........ It Sticks Very Well,+ it Can be removed at a later date........

Another option is BoatLife sealant that looks like silicone, but it is NOT. I used it on the outboard mounting bolts and it is holding up very well. <br /><br />" A long lasting, permanently flexible marine polysulfide sealant which can be sanded, painted and used above and below the waterline. Tack-free in 1 to 3 days, Cures in 7-10 days (weather dependent). Excellent resistance to teak oils, gasoline and diesel fuel. "

3M's 101 sealant is just as waterproof as 5200 and 4200 without the physical characteristics
