I just got the lowdown from the marina where I am having them put in a new remote control. I had replaced some of the Carling lighted switches with the same ones. They say there is a short in the dash and it is blowing a 30amp fuse. They are being snotty about it because they don't want to take time from some of their customers that have been there for years to take time to fix mine. They said that they just don't have the time to deal with it. UGH! So I am wondering if there is a way to track down that short? How should I approach this. Are there any good sites/books to help me with this electrical problem. I have a 1986 250 Sundancer Sea Ray. HELP!!

First off. What circuit is that fues on?

The dealer should easily be able to install your remote while leaving ALL of your wiring alone. The remote should be stand alone.

Re: wiring again

The problem is that unlike a Car there really is no wireing diagram beyond a very basic it should sorta be like this  then you add on the fact that it tends to get hacked up by different owners over the years it turns into

BUT like DJ said first ID the fuse blowing is it a main fuse for everything OR a fuse that protects one thing ?

tommays

Re: wiring again

I will have to ask them which fuse is blowing out all the time. I would imagine that is that particular fuse, say example the water pump then maybe the water pump would be bad. HMMM

Re: wiring again

Look for cracked or loose wiring along that circuit. maybee even check the items hoked to it for loose or faulty wiring.
