They have a Motor Guide bow mount with foot controls and all that for $311 at WallyWorld. I believe it is a 32 pound thrust. My boat is a 16.5 footer, probably around 1500 pounds max (but probably lighter). I am not out to break speed records, I just want manueverability while fishing close to shore. Will this do the job, or is more thrust needed? I am not fighting any currents. Often I can just shut down, and move with a paddle if need be, but I plan on installing this bowmount (if I get it) and building a casting deck with seat for the front of my center console conversion. Thoughts?

If it were me, I'd be lookin' real hard at this one for a little more. I think you would be alot happier with it.

E-Bay Trolling motor(New)

Interesting. I am going to go back to WallyWorld and check the thrust again. I was looking at the MotorGuide website and they don't make a bowmount under 42 pounds thrust, so I want to confirm that. Also, everybody gives me Wallyworld gift cards for Christmas, I could probably pay for most of the cost that way. Yeah, I'm being a bit cheap, but I also am not made of money. None if it is an emergency, the boat won't be back in the water until April or May anyway....

I went back to Wally and it is a Minn Kota 40 pound thrust Power Drive. I went ahead and bought it, it should work fine. I can't imagine it won't do what I need it to do, its not like I am pro fisherman who needs the 24 volt 80+ pounder thruster...

Good deal, Jason. Glad it worked out! Good price, too. I was not inferring you were cheap, just trying to steer you in the right direction. Happy trolling!

Thanx...I know you were tryin' to hook a brother up. My plan was to actually put the motor on layaway, and then pay it off with all the gift cards I would get for Christmas, but the lawaway dude told me that if I didn't pick it up by the 15th, they would put it back out on the floor and refund my money. The whole thing made no sense, so I just slapped it on a credit card, and I will pay it off at the end of the month, and use the gift cards to buy groceries and gas and stuff. It will all work out. Now I need to mount the thing. I won't buy a deep cycle battery until I get close to actually using it, that way I have the freshest and newest battery as possible.

JasonJ,
I have a 40 lb thrust Minn Kota that is foot controled on my 12 foot v hull. I know my boat is quite a bit smaller and lighter than yours, but my boat really moves with it.

I think you're really going to like it. It's soooo nice being able to stay fishing and not keeping the boat off of the bank.
