I am looking for a wiring diagram for a 2000 Model 556 hand control, 56# thrust, 12/24 volt Motorguide trolling motor (hand control).

The motor has 3 wire plug (1) black, (1) red and (1) white wire. How do these get wired back to the battery? I'm sure red positive and black negative but what about the white wire?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks
Rex

This is a Motorguide trolling motor. I have looked at their web site and they only communicate with customers via telephone calls monday through friday. I guess they were so consumed with e-mail in the past that they seem to have eliminated e-mail communication.

If all else fails I'll call them on Monday to see what they have.

Thanks for the advise.

Nitro Rex

You only need the white wire if you are going to run 24 volts. If not, red to positive, black to negative.

The white wire is your second positive lead for 24V use. The balck would remain as the "common" ground.

Re: Motorguide model 556 wiring to battery

Thanks for the info, I burchased a MARLINCO 4 prong marine plug and it has the schematic on the back. This will allow me to flip from 12V to 24V with the flip of the switch on the motor handle.

This plug has an internal jumper which connects two 12V batteries in series when they are wired to the receptical per the diagram. With this plug type the batteries get wired directly to the receptical without any jumpers between batteries.

My boat already had the 4 prong receptical but my motor had only 3 prong plug. Now I have a matched set and it should work okay in either 12V or 24V depending on how I set the switch on the trolling motor.

Thanks Again,

Nitro REx
