As are you i am new this forum as well. Now the reason i would like to see other people boats (small boats), is because i have a small boat myself which i have just bought and to be honest its not much good (i dont think)..so in response to your question WHY, then my answer is to simply look at how good mine actually is!....

And then you said why do i want to put them on my web page the reason i would like to do this is simply to to help build up my web page which is based on BOATS. Now you seem to think that i said i was going to write about these pics, now where you got this idea from i dont now i simply wanted pics of small boats. So thanx for your concern for the rest of the forum but next time why dont you find out a little about the request your about to slag of before doing so, hey!
thanx again...CAPT U.
 :)

Re: boats

Howdy Merc. Chill a bit, dude. Capt. U asked you to explain, you did. There is no cause to raise your hackles.

Please do not start a new thread with each post. You now have 4 threads on the same subject. If you want to say more on that subject, reply to your own thread.

I would have no objection to posting pictures of my boats for you to look at, but I would object to anyone using those pictures somewhere else.

If you take my picture and use it somewhere else without my permission you have violated federal copyright law.

Your idea is not really a bad idea, it is just a bit naive.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: boats

Hi merc,

You seem upset... You said I should find out about what you're posting about before... I ask? Hey bud get your boat up on plane we are all in the same boat here. (Puns intended)

That’s what I was doing, I can't find out unless I ask. Your posts were numerous and about the same subject so I was curious what’s up? I have some pics going back 30 + years, some blunders and some beauties, some mine some family. But I wouldn’t post them unless I knew exactly what you were requesting.

I have been on this site watching and reading for about 4 months and joined in January. I looked around here a while to see what it was all about and how it worked before I joined. I understand you are very new to the site and as I just noted I’m fairly new but one thing I’ve noticed is give as much info in your first post or you just get a lot of questions back or no responses at all.

I've been boating since I was a kid, 30 some odd years. I don't know it all as you can see from the amount of posts I've made I've asked many questions. There are many people here that know more than I ever will!

I've asked questions lately that were time sensitive as I was in the process of purchasing a new boat and motor. So after three posts and few responses I figured you were getting a bit anxious. Sometimes you have to sit tight the answers will come if there are answers out there.

As for what may be written or not I had asked, “What you would write” I didn't mean to suggest anything I was wondering what the explanations for the pics would be? I assume the pics would have some explanation.

Take it easy merc ;)

Re: boats

Hey, Merc. Here is a link to a post which is a few pages back, right here on iboats.
It started out as a pic-post test, and just kinda snowballed. But you may find it interesting. http://www.iboats.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=1&t=000806

But to back up what JB was talking about, it's easier to follow a user's progress with a certain motor/boat combo, if it is all kept on the same thread,as opposed to trying to find a certain "one". It helps both the poster, and those trying to help, help better.

Re: boats

J.B. is right, atleast in Canada. You can't use someones graphics without their expressed permission. Took an awsome picture of an old trappers cabin years ago. The darn picture surfaced on the face of clocks and burl knot coffee tables!! What a surprise! Wife a paralegal.....lots of lawyer friends. I had lots of avenues to take legaly. Then I found out a good friend passed the picture over to this guy. I dropped everything.....(friends you know) So we do have specific rights to our photos, especially if you can prove lost revenue or damages. Nowadays, you can't take anything for granted....

This all seems a little extreme for some inocent guy who loves boats and just wants to make a Website to be prowd of. I hope that any of this topic doesn't ruin mercury16's interest in doing so. He was a little impatient and raised some suspicions.(rightfully so) but my gut feeling is he's OK. Keep trying m16, I think it would be neat to have a collection of our old small boats. But for cryin out loud man.....next time explain yourself!!!!....LOL

Good luck! :)

Re: boats

Howdy, Pursuit2150.

If you will reread my post you will see that I have no objection to people looking at pics of my boats.

I only object to anyone taking my pics and using them elsewhere without my permission..

U.S. Copyright law protects the owner of graphics as well as published material from others using it without written permission. Posting a photo here does not put it in the public domain, it is still mine.

Had a problem with that once. Found graphic material from my thesis in an article published under someone elses name. She also claimed to have done the research and originated the model.

Sorry if I seem touchy about it, but now you know why.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

Re: boats

AN OPEN WEB SITE IS PUBLIC DOMAIN. If you'r thesis was copy writed, then certainly, NO one should steal something you did and call it there own. In reality if you put a picture on this site or any other, it could easily be hacked and used, so who are you going to sue? You average approx. 183 post's per month since you joined. Can I print them or use them?

Re: boats

Hey all,

I am also aware of what JB is talking about. I work in the Commercial Graphics Art and Sign Industry. Our drawings, sketches, storyboards and manufacturing drawings and specifications are proprietary, we own them even without any type of patent or registration.

We can and do sell them, most times when a customer accepts our proposal or just to own them to go elsewhere for manufacture or to keep our design so it won’t be used elsewhere.

And designs are stolen all the time when proposal and proposed design is provided to an unscrupulous customer and this customer takes it elsewhere for manufacture without paying for the design he has broken the law and if prosecuted can cost many times what they saved by stealing them.

It gets real complicated when you combine two proprietary designs and included copy. For instance someone provides to you a logo and it's included into a much larger design/project. Legally this is very complicated with a lot of paperwork and releases.

It is possible to copy, paste and publish (even small scale personal web sites) once and actually steal two or more times.

For instance JB posts a photo of his boat he had painted and applied custom graphics on the boat. Next someone copies his post from a protected web site. How many items was it stolen, and stolen and used and reused? How many times was it illegally reproduced? It could be dozens of each. The proprietary items that were stolen; the custom boat, paint designs, copy, posting web-site’s design and layout and copy. Illegal reproduction; any and all parts of all designs used in-total or any parts of any of the designs, published onto the second web-site and how many sites from there on.

Given enough time it can become part of public domain. That’s why it’s extremely important to protect what you own and why professional web sites have so many legal e’s on every page and all the agreements (no one reads) that we just click “OK” or “I Agree” and if you do not agree you don’t get in. It took awhile to get to this one when we “Agreed” to register to become members of this site, did we agree to not take images from this site and re-use them, I bet we did.

So MERC16 all these posts may have saved you from this site coming after you because you used images posted to this site and more than likely you agreed not to when you joined. And another thing about these posts including my previous post responding to your original query. I hope you understand what I meant when I had asked questions about your requests and web site. No offence intended. Not meant to put you off. I have attempted to help many members with answers to their questions and that was my intention with yours.

My questions may have been a little short and quick to the point without pleasantries like “Hello Merc…” and “Take it easy” or the regular “Good Luck ;o}>” I hope now you see my intentions and that I did include the levity and pleasantries on my first post on this thread.

Well good luck, have a nice day, take it easy, best wishes, may all your children be beutiful and smart nd invent a better windows operating system, sleep well,

:) :p ;) :D

Re: boats

Hey 12Footer that was a good link. Let him go there if he wants some pics. And I know about the C/R stuff but another good reason to put pics of our boats on this forum is for the gear. You know when I started outfitting my boat I really didn't have a good idea on placement and I know that boats are all different but it would help or give us a generally good idea of where to put stuff also it would give us a good idea on stuff that someone else has that might work for us. Trolling motors, graphs, radios, antennas, downriggers, trailers. You get the point. At the landing we all look at other peoples boats to see what kind of stuff they have and sometimes they have some good ideas that you would not come up on this forum in post. A picture says a thousand words. So I'm all for pics on this forum it can only help and not hurt. But instead of putting them on one post I suggest Admin create a new folder for Boat Pics. What do you say ADMIN! It's only my opinion so take it with a grain of salt!
