Hello,

I bought a Bayliner 175 last Feb, and have had it in the water about 10 hours. There are no performance issues, it seems to be a good boat. However, I have a question. When I take out my jump seats in the back, I noticed some cracks in the resin covered wood under the seat (starboard quarter). There are similar cracks in the resin covered wood on the platform the gas tank sits on (port quarter). Anyone else notice this? Is this bad, or is it a non-structural area that won't lead to floor/stringer rot??

Re: Bayliner 175 Cracks

Welcome sir.

From your description the cracks are on the deck/floor and I assume that they are small cracks. Whether big or small if they allow water to get into the plywood core the potential for rot is there. You need to fill them to get a water tight seal.

You did not give us the year of your boat so ??? However I assume that you know that the Bayliners of (at least) the 1980s were not known for their quality of materials or workmanship. If yours is one of these you need to be very agressive with maintenance.

You should repair the cracks or at least seal them to prevent moisture intrusion. The areas may not be structurally important, but rot is like cancer, and could eventually spread to an area that is important. Good luck...
