welcome aboard,
never owned one, but they have a good rep. in my
area and good resale value. could do a lot worse
IMHO. have it surveyed so no unexpected problems.
good luck,
M.Y.
I don't know if an 01 counts as older, but other than a few small fit and finish things I love my Four Winns. I believe the are a good value... high quality for the money.
I've got a 1989 205 Sundowner.
I would say our biggest gripe is all the wood. Now its a cuddy so that could change the set up vs a bowrider. The walls that support the windshield etc are all wood and subject to rot (big time)Back seats same thing.
The hull is great.. We have a 200hp Evinrude and the boat handles the heavy water great. Could not ask for a better ride.
I have a 78' 19'6" fourwinns. Not sure which model but we love it. Very solid hull. We have done quite a bit to make it more usable. Added cup holders, moved the rear seat back 8" to increase cocpit area. Added a full length swim deck and a custom wakeboard tower. I can't think of any areas to watch out for but as with any boat watch for wood rot in the floor and transom areas!
I have an 88 200 Horizon and other than a small rotted area in the floor it has been good. I fixed that last spring and it has been fine ever since. The only other thing is that if you are looking for an I/O, many older FWs have OMC Cobras since OMC owned FW for some years. Just make sure you can get someone to work on it if you buy an OMC Cobra powered boat, not all places will.
