Has anyone ever had Bimini Shrinkage?

I had the top off my boat for sometime now. Restoring it. I tried to put the top back on temporarily since I was going to make a new one. It would fit a boat about 3/4 the size of mine. Does anyone know what would cause it to shrink like this? Just about have my new one made, but couldn't use it other than for curves. Had to take it to the boat to get real measurements.

I have had canvas shrink a little but not what you are describing.Did you have it wet at any time while it was off the boat???That could do it.I have stretched wet canvas before but only by an inch or so.You can try setting it up and letting water pool on it and setting a board or brick in the center and leave it for days and either move it around or add to the brick or board.Charlie

It was dry when I put it in my shed and the shed doesn't leak. I know canvas shrinks some but I have never seen this much. It likes a good foot side to side and two foot in length.

New one is in place now though. I was just curious.

First, what material? Sunbrella fabric will have very little shrinkage. The older vinyl type of fabric will do what you explain if it is not stretched on a frame for a long time. If sunbrella, wet it down and do your best to stretch it back on as it drys it will stretch back to fit. If vinyl feeling fabric on one side and cloth on other get your phone book out and start looking for a canvas shop. Time for new.
