Cavitation plate position

My 50 hp Force on a 15' fiberglass bass boat is slow (hole and top). Could the position of the motor have any effect. Right now the cavitation plate sits about 2" below the bottom and has a plastic foil. How high can I raise it and should I keep the foil?

Raise it to at least even with the bottom, Zaxxon. The hydrofoil should be on top of the water on plane.<br /><br />Good luck. <br /><br />Moving to General Outboard
