Hello

I just had a matrix 25 Hummingbird system put on and it seems to work except at times when I pick up speed the depth reading gets all wacky. The speed works fine-- the temp works and the fish finder works but the depth is something I like to see as the bottom in the bay is always changing even within the buoeys. the transducer was mounted according to direction.

any Ideas??

Thanks
Cool it

Re: Fish Finder

Almost anytime you lose bottom at speed, it's the transducer angle that is off a bit. Try adjusting it up or down in small increments until it works. It needs to be pointing straight down when on plane.. Many will say that Humminbirds will do this anyway, but mine does not.. Also, make sure the transducer is running in "Clean" water. You may try lowering it just a bit(1") or so. It should also be at least 18 inches away from the prop and preferably mounted on the starbord side.

Cool It,
If the 'ducer is mounted behind or inline/almost inline with a rib or strake on the hull, water turbulence could be the cause. It needs to run in smooth, non-turbulent water for good readings. If the 'ducer is mounted too high it may not even be in the water when you plane out. I set mine a minimum of 1/2" below the hull, 1 inch is better. If mounted too close to the centerline of your boat the lower unit and/or prop could cause problems. Otherwise, could be electrical interference.
JD
