Re: To Tach or not to Tach?

Ib, as mellowyellow said, there on your merControl is a three prong connector. There is a gray wire, purple, and a black.
Well, at least mine did! Anyway, the gray is for the tach sense, the purple is for the ignition on the tach, and the black is ground. All those wires go to the tach.

MerControl is the throttle/shifter handle.
look on very front/bottom and you should see
a place where it plugs in.

Re: To Tach or not to Tach?

ok, I have no connector in front of the control, there are 3 cables coming out of the back side of control which are 1 for forward, 1 for reverse, and 1 for electrical, control has choke button on top and key switch which doesn't work, but like I said the Ignition has been bypassed with a push pull on/off switch, and a push button start, should I hook up to those?....

Thanks for the replys!...

my former '70 1150 had same color code as stumpy
described above, but not sure about '64?
do a search here under "MerControl"...there should
be a link to a schematic I once needed. if lucky,
the '64 uses same color codes.
good luck,
M.Y.

On a 61 50 horse merc hook sense wire from tack to either yellow wire at the rectifier. Black wire goes to ground.

I have a similar question. Does this also work with a 1984 50hp mercury, the front plug on the remote control?
