What determines the actual resolution of the screen. 480x480 refers to the size of the screen, yes? Where do you look to find out how much res you get? How do they differ?

Re: FF RESOLUTION

Two things determine screen resolution, the number of pixels (colored dots) manufactured into the screen of the monitor and your graphics card processing capability.

To determine the setting available to you in a Windows based system, right click on the desktop. Click on properties. Click on the setting tab. This will tell you what your system is set at. You can adjust to other resolutions from this screen also.

Gil – doesn’t matter.
You can’t find/see your alien brethren (octopi) with sonar…no air sack. :D

Edit: that display’s resolution is always 480 x 480. You always see 480 x 480 pixels, as that is the physical dot matrix that makes the display area. To see less resolution you would need to turn off pixels. There are no extra pixel to turn on so you can’t see ‘more’ resolution.

Hardware resolution: take Garmin’s GPSMap 172 as an example. It has a 320 x 320 screen resolution, and a 3.2 x 3.2 inch viewing area. Divide the 320 pixels by 3.2 inches and you have 100 dots per inch screen resolution. Garmin’s screen is square so it’s the same for x and y.

Water column resolution: divide the depth of the water column you are looking at by the screen’s vertical hardware resolution; 480. That is how much water each pixel represents. Same thing when you zoom it; divide the water column you see by 480.
