Hey everyone, new to the forum's so firt off I would like to start out by saying Hello!! Nice to finally find such a good forum after days of searching!!

And for the question....

My cousin owns a :

Boat: [2004 Ski Centurion Elite Bow-rider]
Engine: [Mercruiser 350 MAG MPI 8 cyl., Gas]
Gauges: [Faria - Tachometer 3 in 1] - GT0030B
[Faria - Speedometer 3 in 1]
[2 Blanks, still litght up however]

The tachometer consists of (RPM, TEMP, OIL, and a light)

The Speedometer consists of (MPH, VOTS, FUEL, and a light)

They are placed in this order from left to right.
Blank Gauge, Tachometer, Speedometer, Blank Gauge

What my cousin did was take off the front cover which holds the gauges in place and attaches to the dash, than he removed the blank gauge on the far left, and tachometer... He even labeled the wires, but its obvious he mislabled. After seeing how many wires there were he stopped.. And decided he could live with the small crack on the front cover and continued to put the gauges back in place.

Well... Now the fuse is blowing, so I went over there and disconnected the wires from the 2 gauges and the fuse does not blow, but I can't seem to figure out how to put them back either.

The wiring consists of:

3 - Purples
2 - Dark Blues
1 - L-Blue
1 - Gray
1 - Tan
2 - Looks like #10 Black wires
2 - Small Black wires
1 - I want to say green, I forgot to write it down

There is a sticker on the side of the Tach. that reads:

1. Tach
2. N/C
3. Temp
4. Oil
5. Lights
6. B+
7. Ground

The only thing I am unsure about is, if there is a green wire on there or not, I'm hoping you guys will know, if not, I can repost when I drive to his house again, It's a couple of hours away so it might be a while...

Thanks for taking the time to read this post, I appreciate it..

Mike

Hi Mike,
All the purples are the B+ connections.
The dark blues are the lamp connections.
The light blue is oil pressure connection.
The gray is the tach connection.
The tan is the w/temp connection.
The blacks are the ground connections.
Not sure about the green either. It could be a pink, which would be the fuel connection.

Blowing fuses is a sign of too much current flowing. Look for the violet wires connected to a ground connection. Does each gauge have a label on it that tells you "stud 1 = tach" or something like that?

Hey Gaugeguy. Thanks for the quick reply!! I appreciate it. And the answer to your question is yes.

Stud 1 = Tach
Stud 2 = N/C
Stud 3 = Temp
Stud 4 = Oil
Stud 5 = Lights
Stud 6 = B+
Stud 7 = Ground

How about the 2 thick gauged wires? They are both black. My cousins seems to think that they were together. They look like 10 gauge wire. Does this mean they need to go on the ground post as well? The thing that confuses me, is I tested one of them and it was a hot wire. Thanks.

Mike

Re: Faria Gauges (Ski Centurion)

I'm not sure about the heavy wires Mike. The boat sounds like it is wired per NMMA so the color code should be black=ground. If you tested them and they have voltage on them, I wouldn't connect them to a ground (that may be why fuses are blowing). As far as the back of the gauges go, the color code above should get them up and running fine. I would cap the two heavy black wires until you figure out for sure where they go.

Good luck.
