The Title E BAY says it all.

Most folks have it bookmarked to visit often and find the one stop shopping convenient. Some other folks find the spirit of competition a driving force to beat someone else to a good deal or beat someone else out of a good deal. Unlike multiple products lined up on the shelf of a department store, the principal motivating factor on E Bay is to compell the bidder with the understanding the item may not be for sale again. This cognative effect causes many buyers to make compulsive and uneducated purchase decisions. Remember E bay is targeting a global marketplace so the auction items are only worth what someone is willing to pay for them. Although you may be able to purchase something in your favorite store for the same closing auction price, someone else may be in a demographic area that commands a higher price. Therefore making the E Bay option a fair price.

I have purchased a few things on E Bay with relatively positive expreiences.

Much like any auction you have to know what you are buying and what the true value is. As you say Iv'e seen used items sell for more than they can be purchased for new retail. And you get a warranty with the new item. On the other hand there are good deals to be had if you look often enough. Example I bought a new in the package overheat switch for my outboard motor. Paid $15USD for it whereas my local dealer wanted $108CDN (way overpriced I think). I saved myself nearly $70CDN even after calculating shipping and exchange on the dollar. It can become somewhat addictive and you really have to dicipline yourself, be aware and know what you are buying.

i am getting the understanding of it now,

some people realy get the kicks out of beating others out of a good buy sometimes.

i also thing some of these sellers have more than one acounts with ebay with diffrent users names, ebay does not forbid that, you notice when some one just keep running the price up high antil he get to where he wants it, this person never bids again thats the person who is selling the item,

as you guys said just have to know what you realy getting and the price of it out here on the street

There are locations that some of us live in that does not offer the convenience of driving to a salvage yard or parts store. You can all so get good buys on ebay. Paid $75.00 for a power t&t on ebay. All I wanted was the one hydraulic cylinder. Salvage yards wanted $ 200.00 for the cylinder. It does pay to check them out.

:D

Got me some perko hinges off ebay paid $14.00 for 4 would have cost $40.00 about anywhere else.
Was going for a steering wheel but the price became way to high in 45 minutes. (That Idiot could have bought a similar wheel for half that. I almost alway bid what the item is worth if somebody wants it let them have it. I was looking for Ratcheting crimpers and they are almost alway higher than you can get them here. Some people can't help themselfs though.
If I see the Item (crimpers) are $60 new, my max is alsways $30. Or 50% if new and 40% used in great shape. That way I don't think about being shafted.
If I lose a bid I know for a fact that there will be another item that similar soon. Only if it was a rare item I could not live without would I bid real high.

Have fun but don't pay more than you can really get the item from another person/store.

I have bought and sold a ton of stuff on E-Bay. Yes, I very much enjoy beating out other bidders, but only as long as the deal is good for me. I rarely buy anything on E-Bay if I do not know what it would cost me elsewhere. It might also suprise you that in some parts of the country - even the civilized parts - some things simply are not available locally. For instance I could not buy something like an aluminum anchor from any place within 100 miles of my home and then it would be a West Marine where I would have to pay through the nose. E-bay offers not only the potential for a lower price - which is the norm - but also convienence in shopping, without the burden of tax (which seems to about break even with shipping costs).

Of course if a person is so brain dead as to want to pay far to much for something all I ask is that I be the seller.

Thom

Ditto ThomWV. Do your homework and Ebay has bargains.
