VHF/AMFM Antennas

I've ordered 2 Shakespear antennas; 1 for a VHF and one for a JBL Stereo. (4' Galaxy models) Will all pertinent hardware be included? If so, are the connectors standard to VHFs and marine stereos? Also, I'm limited to where I can mount the VHF. Looks like it will be right behind the compass on my center console. Will there be magnetic interference to the compass?

Normally for VHF, the antenna and mount are sold separately.<br /><br />The antenna connectors are standard for the stereo and VHF.<br /><br />Any time an electric field is present so is a magnetic field. When transmitting the radio will probably interfere with the compass.

Thanks LI ... yes, I did order the appropriate mounts that I'll need. I was more concerned that the connections would be included and if they were standard. You answered that. Thanks again.

I know that you didn't ask this in your post, but why install 2 separate antenas. The vhf cable from one antena can be plugged into a splitter and the splitter will have a plug for a vhf and a plug for a stereo.

Bull. I wound up putting the VHF unit in the glove box, lockable and no surgery, new antenna was in front of windshield and on the edge of hull. Mike cord reaches driver.

I mounted my VHF on the inside, along the wall. It folds down ending on the transom walk through. I had concern mounting on the outside when docking, and trailering. No interference.

Trophy .... yeah, that's the way I think I'm going. I'll have some returns to make now, but its cheaper and less of a project.

I too am at the point where I can start getting navigational equiptment to go along with what I already have. I was pleased to find a splitter could be used to run both AM/FM and VHF togather. Being hesatant to go drilling holes in my hull for a mount, I see on ebay that there are 'rail-mount' antena bases. .....For those in the know, is there a particular brand that lasts the best without slipping and rotating on the railing? Metal or plastic..... any advice there? My railing and hardware are sound and tight I might add, so it's simply the integrity of the mount I'm concerned with.

Spliitters and plastic hardware are OK, for the weekend warriors. Neither will give satisfactory performance to people where a failure isn't an option.
