How many wires can I put on a post. Lets say I want some +switch12V from my ign switxh to the tach. Now I want to share that with the volt, speedoand fuel guage is this OK and how do I do it?
Do I run a nut between each item or a washer will be ok? I wil be using ring connections.

Just curious as to yhy do you want switched 12V on your speedometer? Yest you can feed all gauges that require switched 12V from the switch. None of these are high current draw devices. Ideally you would use a stainless internal or external tooth lockwasher between each ring terminal and top off with a nut. But stacking the terminals and using a lockwasher and nut will be ok.

Re: How many wires

Well, if you want to get really technical about it, two ring terminals per #10 screw/lug. Mount the ring terminals back to back, no spacer or washer between them.

Ok, since you asked... you use one ring terminal on the source (ignition switch) to the first gauge. Then you stack on that screw/lug to the next gauge, then to the next, etc. What you are doing is daisy chaining the 12vdc to each gauge with no more than two ring terminals on any lug.

Now that you know, you can ignore it and go with Up In Smoke’s real-world advice. Like he said, they are all low current critters.

Upinsmoke your correct its drive by Pitot and has a light that is going to be on the switch. this is seperate from the IGN +12V part. I am making the lights on a seperate switch.

In addition to the sound and quality advice from these fine fellow iboaters, I would suggest getting some di-electric grease and applying it to the ring terminals to seal out moisture. You can get tiny packets from AutoZone or Advanced auto parts. Or you can get a small tube from more professional parts stores like NAPA. The grease requires a more careful attention to getting the connections tight, but will save you headaches down the road.

I don't know what the heck I was thinking!
I was thinknig that if you daisy chaned them you were not getting the +12V at all terminals.

And I know better Parallel circuits get the same voltage but spilt the current. Serial is the same current but the voltages drop per device.

Doh they are going to be paralled all at +12V. I also ordered a dual bus bar now I don't need it grrrr.

Wel it will be easier to wire now that I know but I want to just die when I spent another 25 dollar on an Item I don't really need.
