I am ready to buy another fish finder for the bow of my boat and have a Garmin 240 mounted on the transom/console. Not sure what unit to buy for the front but want to mount transducer to the trolling motor. Several questions:
1) Would it be OK to use the trolling motor battery which is already in the front of the boat for power?
2)Do most units come with trolling motor transducers?
3) Any suggestions as to any "do's and don'ts" in running the wires or mounting?
I've never done it before.

Thanks for the help,
Glen

1. Yes, it would be fine.
2. No. Some you must specify a troller mount, others it is an aftermarket item.
3. If you run both at the same time on the same frequency you will get crosstalk and interference.

Good luck. :)

Re: Bow Mounted Fish Finder

I did this last spring.

I used a cheap Hummingbird Parahna finder, mounted the transducer that came with it by drilling a hole in the little fin on the bottom of the electic motor and some spacers. I have yet to see any interference from the elecric motor. You dont run the motor all the time anyway. This unit works perfectly for a bow mounted unit. Compact, easy to use, and cheap.
