My nav lights work when the engine is on Neutral and I can increase the revolutions without any problems and the lights still work. When driving the boat the nav light fuse pops out. What could be the problem?

Re: Navigation lights

If you mean the fuse pops out of its holder, fix the holder. If you mean the fuse blows, there is a short in either the bow or stern light circuit. If you have removable masts, pull them, turn the switch on and run the boat. If the fuse doesn't blow, the problem is in one of the masts. Put one in at a time to determine which mast has the problem. Fix it or buy a new one. If the fuse still blows with the masts removed, there is a wiring problem.

What do not understand is that the lights work when the engine is on Neutral but when putting in the forward gear the fuse "pops" out.Even when adding revolutions there is no problems in Nuetral only when the forward is on. The short should be apparent all the time... I have these fuses which you do not change.....

You have to start troubleshooting someplace. Upinsmoke gave you a good starting point. Try what he suggests and report back with the results.

You say the short should appear all the time, apparently not. If your wiring runs through your control box, the wiring may be shorting out when the shift lever is actuated.

Ken – welcome to the forums. :)

I think you have a pushbutton breaker. That would explain the “pops out”, and “the kind you don’t replace.” Sound correct? Where is the breaker located?

If the problem were in the control box, the control box must be downstream of the breaker in the same protected path (s/b 12vdc). I’m not seeing it. But then there’s no ‘splaining what we see in boat electric.

What kind/size of boat are we talking about? Do you have a breaker panel for the onboard electrical?

Re: Navigation lights

My boat is a Rinker Fiesta 265.The pushbutton breakers are under the steering wheel and easely approachable. All other electrical functions works well.
Would like to understand the issues in order to fix it myself. If I cannot do it I at least understand where the problem is before asking someone to fix it.I am a Scandinavian not knowing all the Boat terms in English so it complicates this somewhat. What is a control box?

Re: Navigation lights

Sounds to me like someone added some new lighting wiring AFTER everything else. It is probably going straight back to the battery and the fuse is popping when the alternator increases the voltage / amps as the engine revs higher.

Re: Navigation lights

Do you POP the same breaker if you shift into reverse? If yes, look for a wire being pinched inside of the shifter box.

Control box, The box with the throttle and shift controls. Sometimes the ignition, safety and TNT switches are also installed there.
