Compass lightbulb voltage question

I just had my Danforth Constelation compass refilled/regasketed, and now the light doesn't work (it used to). I checked the voltage going to it, approximately 4 volts to those bronze/copper contacts it sits on. I assume this should be 12 volts? Can someone tell me the voltage that should be there? (Before I try jumping 12 volts to the bottom of the compass  ) Thanks!

I never knew a boat instrument light that wasn't 12 volts.

Re: Compass lightbulb voltage question

Thanks swist, I was thinking it might be less than 12 volts like a flashlight bulb or something, guess I'll jump 12 volts to it from elswhere to see if it works, but sounds like the wiring may need some inspecting.

Bump, , anyone ever change one of these lightbulbs? I'd hate to undo the wrong screw and have my now bubbleless compass go back to being Mr. Bubbles..... :D

mine is a tiny led .. i can't find/see any resistors to knock down voltage.. most small led's are sub-12v..
