Problem with Evinrude Scout Trolling Motor

I have purchased a boat that has this motor mounted to the bow. The motor seems to run fine except for this one problem. When the arrow on the top of the motor is pointing straight forward, I am able to turn left, but in order to turn right, I have to rotate the arrow back to the left to a full circle to go right. I cannot just go right because it comes to a complete stop. Does anyone know if there is any adjustment to stop this and get it working correctly? If not, does anyone know of anywhere I could contact to solve this problem. I live in Indiana, approx. 70 mi. north of Indianapolis. Thanks beforehand.

Re: Problem with Evinrude Scout Trolling Motor

I have sort of the same problem on a used troller that I got. ran it first time this weekend. when on and running, I cannot use the foot pedal to turn LEFT, if I turn off the foot control it turns fine, going right (clockwise on arrow) with the unit on, it works fine. didnt have time to fool with it. hope to in a couple of days. will see and let you know. I would have to say it has something to do with the cable or the foot pedal.

jdgirl,
I have an old Scout troll motor. It works fine but the prop is chipped and the direction arrow is broken. Other than that it is in good shape. I know the parts are hard to find for these. If you need it drop me a line and we can work something out.
chester1@livingston.net

It sounds like the gears need to be re-aligned. Take the cover off the head and watch the gears as you work the foot pedal. It shouldn't be too hard to move the pinion gear a few notches.

Re: Problem with Evinrude Scout Trolling Motor

jdgirl, I think the last post hit it , especially looking at mine tonight. however that is not my solution. if the scout is like my troller, after you take off hte cover, you will see the gear. one gear is toothed 360 and the other offset gear, the larger one, is like a half moon (sort of). there is a pin that it rides on. before you pull it , turn the shaft and watch it . that will tell you if it is not lined up. if it is not, then the best I can tell you is play around with aligning up the teeth. carefully pull up the larger half moon gear and then tilt it to get it to come clear of the 360 gear. rotate the motor shaft to get it to where you want and put half moon gear back into place and try it. what I did with mine was this. after the half moon was removed, rotated shaft so the motor is straight like it is pulling you straight, then put half moon gear back so the first tooth (from the end of half moon gear that is closest to the 360 gear) is lined up with furthest front gear recess of the 360 gear. then try.
