I have a Kenwood in dash CD player on my boat. It is hooked to two 6X9 speakers and two 6" speakers. My receiver is a 200 watt Kenwood (50w per channel). I need more power. Now if I want to have stereo and more power what type of amp do I need? A four channel or a two channel? Speakers are Bazooka and rated at 200w on 6X9 and I believe 150w on the 6" speakers. Right now I'm pullin 25w in each speaker and it sound good but gets distorted due to lack of punch. Suggestions for economical amp with good sound?

You need a 4 chanel amp, putting the speakers in parallel with a 2 chanel amp will wear out the amp.

Your kenwood should have 4 chanel output with RCA..

I've used some pretty junky cheap amps, and they sure don't put out the power they CLAIM to have...

Go with a namebrand, I used a Sony Xplode sub amp and was VERY pleased with it.

I'd probably go with a 400 watt, 100 watt per chanel.

If you want to complicate it a bit, here's what you do for best sound,

2 amps, and a dual crossover. Send only the high's to the 6" and 6x9 through a smaller amp. Only needs about 50-100 watts per speaker, as your not driving any bass at all.

Then get one 10 or 12" sub, and send about 400 watts to it, and this sub only gets the low, about 90khz and below.

This way, your speakers are only expected to produce the sound they are intended to produce.

In my old minivan, I had 2 6.5" JBL speakers in the dash. I powered them with 175 watts each, with the crossover only sending 90khz and above.

In the back, I had TWO 15" Subs with 500 Watts going to EACH. If I cranked up the whole system, those 2 front did great with keeping the mix good, but it was too much bass, and downgraded the amp.

I used an MTX crossover, bought it for $60 years ago, you can get it for next to nothing on ebay now.

Awesome! Thanks for the great info. Now I will be able to hear music rather than distortion when I'm cruising around the lake.

I run both batteries while the engine is running. When I go to a cove or have the tunes on with engine off, I switch to battery two.

I use an electronic cross over to separate my sub from the mid and high range speakers. Works great and it's tunable.

Might want to look at some rockford fosgates...I have run both rockford's and sony's and I kinda prefer the rockford's. They should be cheaper as well.
