Re: two diffrent fishfinder on same boat help

They will need to be running on different frequencies. I run 2 on mine. One is 120 mhz and the other one is a split 60/200, it works ok. I got an Eagle DF480, depth sounder works great but the speed wheel is a piece of junk.

I have a 16" bass boat with a Garmin 240 on the console and a Lowrance X125 on the bow. The xducers are on opposite ends of the boat and I've never had a problem.

I run an Eagle on the console and a PinPoint on the trolling motor. No problem whatsoever.

Re: two diffrent fishfinder on same boat help

I have 2 units on my boat. One is running 120 khz and the other is a 50 or 200 khz frequency signal from the transducer. If both transducers were mounted close together and running the same frequency then the fishfinders might get the signals crossed and you would not get an accurate reading from either machine. The frequencies should have a difference of at least 50 khz to prevent the signals from getting confused by the fishfinders or be mounted as far apart as possible.

Re: two diffrent fishfinder on same boat help

bolo
The Lowrance X102C runs a 200 khz tranducer at 300 watts.
The Furuno LS6100 runs a 200 khz and a 50 khz transducer at 300 watts.

If you run both at 200 khz with transom mount transducers it will not work, but you could run the Furuno at 50 khz and it should work.

Why do you want to run both at the same time??

I have run 2 200 khz transducer on a 19 foot bass boat. One transducer on the trolling motor and the other a shoot thur hull near the transom. It works good down to about 30 feet. Deeper than 30 feet they interfeer and neither unit works until turn the other unit off.

This may help you understand why you can not use the same frequency on both units. Lets say you and a girl friend are standing side by side in a place where you can here echos when you yell. You yell and both you and your girl friend can here your echo come back. Now your girl friend yells and again you both here the echo. If you both start yelling you can here the echo come back and you can still tell which echo is yours and which is hers because the frequency is different and sounds difference. Now you both pick up the same type bike horn and start honking. Now when you here the echo come back you can no longer tell which is your and which is your girl Friends because they sound the same.

Depth finders / fish finders do the same thing. Each will send out a sound signal then wait for the echo. Unit knows how fast the signal travels in water so it times the return of the echos. First echo unit heres is a fish at a middle depth, then it here the echo off a big tree laying on the bottom then the bottom. Unit displays each on the screen. When you turn on the second unit it also heres the signals and echo from the other unit. Since they are not sending out ping at the same time and each unit will here all the returns and try to display them neither unit will have any data that makes since.

Re: two diffrent fishfinder on same boat help

thanks boatis, man you make it so clear, as tough as my brain is i understand clearly, the reason why i want to runs both is i got the lowrance from a friend, it is color, my furuno is black an white but i love it man this unit is great i snag a bunker put a heavy wait on it and send it down to see if my ducer will pick it up, and to have an idea what it will look like on the screen, man it was a sight to see everytime i drop it down to the bottom i saw the suker on the screen, that why i caught so much stripers early may i just go cruiseing and watch the finder,

any way right now it is working fine but as soon as i gets on plain i lost bottom , this was my first time installing a ducer and i know i did a faulty installation i put the ducer a little too high on the transom and where there is too much noise and turbolance, and with the barnicles and stuff on the bottom it just gets worst. so if i had install the back up lowrance at least i might be getting bottom readind from it . i dont plan on running both at the same time, just need to have both to play with and learn which is the better unit and such ect, again thanks guys,
and god bless.

Bolo
I think both units are great units. In deep Salt water over 200 feet The Furuno 6100 will do a better job if you use the 50khz mode.

Mounting the transducer is the key to good operation at planing speeds. Mount 12 to 18 inches away from the motor where you have green water not white water. A clean hull makes a big difference. also make sure nothing to make air bubbles in the water ahead of the transducer.

Re: two diffrent fishfinder on same boat help

thanks boatis, i think i found the problem why keep loseing bottom when on plain,

today i was at my marinea i was changing a prop laying on my belly i reach down and felt the transducer, and lo and behold the ducer was flapping it is not holding any presure on the mounting brackets so everytime the boat start moving the water just flip it back, so i gess i will get at that next season, thanks every one ang guys for the money if you are buying a low price black and white fishfinder, please try the furuno ls 6100

good luck
