Having a 38' sport fisherman built and trying to decide on a fish finder. Have a Raymarine 760 on my current boat and it isn't too useful.
Fishing in 300 - 2000 feet of water for tuna, wahoo, etc., not bottom fishing.

Another Raymarine, the new digital unit ? Interphase Twinscope ?

Anybody have any recommendations ?

Chart plotter could be seperate ot integrated.

Re: Offshore fish finder

I have the Furuno Navnet System with C-Maps and really like it. I hear the Northstar equipment is really good too.

If I was out-fitting a custom 38'er, I would check out a Raymarine system. Radar to fishfinder and all the 'tronics in between. Have fun

Re: Offshore fish finder

Thanks for the advice. I have been happy with my Raymarine products, so I may stay with them.

Looked at the Furuno quickly, will take another look.

Re: Offshore fish finder

I just put a Humminbird 981C on my boat. I fish only 2 to 300' max but this unit has capabilities to 2,500 ft. It also has a side scan mode that I find great for river fishing for Salmon & Steelhead on my lil jet sled. It's quite an impressive unit with a great deal of info to provide.

http://www.humminbird.com/products.asp?ID=507

DangerDan,
I had looked at the Humminbird and it looked good but it can only use a transom mount transducer. On this boat that is not possible due to the engine configuration.

Maybe I shouldn't worry about the fishfinder as I only seem to catch fish when it doesn't show anything !

At any rate I would steer clear of that twinscope.. Simrad makes some fine fish finding equipment though.
