Think I'm going to have to take up fishing again. Fish is more then beef. Use to find Salmon for $7 Lb, but only finding $15 plus. Looked for other kinds, local grocery, on line all kinds of places and good grief prices are high.

Find a places for even Tilapia and geezers that's more then stake

Only things I can find reasonable is shrimp

Anyone have places can find it more reasonable?

It's all shipping and fuel cost....

I can still get fresh, locally caught fish at half way decent prices.

Don't do previously frozen fish so I can't offer much help otherwise.

Taking up fishing isn't the answer.
I'm lucky to break even on fuel cost with market price on any given day. Count the time and equipment costs, market price is a real bargain...lol

Thanks
I'm ok with frozen being in KY. Big issue is the samon frozen stuff is real thin, like who want's that stuff. Found some fresh at Kroger yesterday made up in 1 pound packages at $12 for salmon and $10 for Tilapia. Picked up some but dang ribeye is $7

Had lunch at Captain Ds (fast food) and got the salmon plate for $11 which came as 6oz fish and 3 sides. I don't know how there making any money at these prices

More then 10 years ago I bought a case of snow crab from a hotel friend and it was cheap, maybe $30. It came from Sysco and have always wondered if a group can find a in to buy from them

The state has advisories for most of the fish here. I still eat bluegill and crappy, the cats are on the do not eat list and I haven't found a good recipe for bass yet.

TN has fish advisory, which water ways?

I use to bring home stringers of fish every time I went out, not counting when I ran the trout lines. Put my stuff up at 18 and now being over 60 think I might need to try it again.

Would cook Bass mostly same as the rest, batter and deep or pan fry

Watts bar reservoir. They say the PCB is too high. I have some friends who still eat cats and they are ok health wise at the moment but "do you feel lucky?"
I spent my young life in Sarasota and got spoiled on salt fish and shrimp still wiggling. I like grilled fish but love fried cat.

Good choice, I will need to get a fishing boat. Dale is still clean. Or maybe move there. I can fish in my backyard and catch them. I just wish the bluegill were bigger!

Sadly, most water fisheries have health advisories of some sort

I would fish at Dale and no notices there
Dale Hallow?
Advisories related for Walleye and black basses

Yep it's hard to find clean water these days. I drink well water and truthfully I am afraid to test it. I do like a shower that doesn't smell like bleach.

Mercury isn't good to eat but neither is sugar, choose your poison. Margerion was originally a candle, 🕯️ don't eat it. Give me a grilled red snapper and I'm in paradise!

Yep I relate, our food chain has been screwed with to the point that maybe none of it is healthy. The crappy and bluegill can maybe be a better choice because they are small and don't absorb the containments like the bottom feeders.

If you live near good fishing areas then getting your own gear doesn't have to be that expensive. I live near Lake Erie in Ohio, numerous places to fish and plenty of catchable fish, blue gill, crappie, perch and walleye. A simple 16' aluminum boat and motor can fill your freezer each season. After initial outlay for the boat and motor and some fishing gear ( much can be found at garage sales)
The actual fishing trips cost me about 3 gallons of gas in my tow vehicle, 2 gallons of boat gas, make my own ice and bait runs about 5-6 bucks. Clean my own as I don't like bones in my fish. Perch at the fresh fish market are 24.00 per pound, walleye are 20.00 or lb. With my 30 limit of perch it will equal about 3-4 lbs of fillets...so, fishing doesn't have to cost a fortune.

Cool, been wanting to go there maybe next summer. If you are into camping look up old stone fort park (best) or barton springs (on the lake). Or tims ford has a few, devils step is supposed to be nice.
