Does anyone know if there is a flush attachment for a 1966 Evinrude 18hp? Filling up the trash can is getting old. The intake looks like this,

There is one but I don't know where to buy it. It clips over the cavitation plate and has a spring to hold it in place.

Can't see your picture but if memory serves me the flush attachment you speak of did exist. It hooked over edge of cavitation plate and scupper fit over intake port. the one I remember was made of metal with spring hooks for holding it on.Maybe some dealer still has one laying around or can still order one......OOOOPS just got the picture. Yep theres one to be got somewhere

DC have used one in the past, didn't work very well. Will look and see if I still have mine. Let me know if you dont find one. I think I got mine at Wallyworld.

Make one from a piece of sheet metal, bend it to shape, bore a hole in it then get a female hose connector and solder it to the sheet metal over the hole. Hold it on with a spring or wrap something around it, like a bungee cord.

Re: flush attachment

Have you tried the 'earmuff' type? They are sold @ Walmart, etc (about $7.95). Also, Basspro.com has them for sale on the web. A type that fits your engine's 'pee hole' is frequently offered on ebay. Do an alltheweb.com or yahoo.com search on the web...you will find several offerings.

I am sure you are aware of the potential danger to your engine if you over-rev it on muffs? Over 1500rpm can be really bad, especially on the older engines.

Re: flush attachment

My '56 Johnson and '56 Evinrude have the same type water intake that is in your photo. Frankly, I gave up on muffs some years ago with my newer motors because I was never sure whether I was running enough, too much or too little water into the engine, or if I was overspeeding the prop. I found an 80 gallon metal watering trough at the local hardware. It has a drain plug at the bottom so I can empty the water when I'm through running the small motors, and it only stands about 24 inches high so the motors can sit on a stand and be immersed in the water. Some previous owner of my Evinrude had attached a copper tube and fitting to the water intake plate, but it had long since fouled with gunk. I like the tank because I can put fresh water in it, and put my motors through their paces under a slight load.
