Re: Way overpowered??!!

this may be an old post, but it brings to mind a few things that I have said over and over ... a brand spankin new 80 horse is not, NOT going to be too far from a tired 125 old power rating horsepower engine ... that and the fact that the 125, cranking out maybe 90 honest horsepower can be run at part throttle, less strain on the motor, less fuel than a fifty or sixty horse motor wailing away with the throttles mashed to the wall ...

again, as always, cant hang this beast on a 12 foot johnboat, it will beat anything you saw to the bottom of the lake

including the anchor! (dont want to maroon the anchor, they love water yanno! lol, damnn neumann)

my two cents, and thats all I have to say about that!

Wow, I thought that post was dead!! Here's an update on the boat. I checked around the transom and found what I think is the rating plate. All of the printing on the plate is faded off but the stamped numbers remain. One of them clearly says 115. This I am assuming is the HP rating. The boat has run well these past 2 years with just some maintenance but we are sorting through a stalling problem now. The boat runs consistenly at 44 mph @5400 rpm. The prop is a 3 blade 11 3/4" x 21" stainless. We have lots of bottom end grunt to pull skiers and wakeboarders so I think the boat is set up right. We're really happy with it.

Cheers!

I know this post is old but reading it brought back a memory of the V4 (cant remember which years ) that where actually v8s cut in half....
noticable due to the Huge Pistons.....I mean I have a Johnson 150 Gt V6 and the V4 pistons / Block where bigger than mine....I remember thinking *man that thing must drink fuel*....the tech whom which garage the Outboard was in then explained to me a certian years they used Half a V8 block to make the V4's...

was Interesting ....atleast to me :D
