I was wondering where to hook a gauge up to, but i don't know if there is a sender/where the sender is or what wires to hook up to. Thanks for the help and sorry for the stupid question.

steve

Re: 1979 johnson 175 hp, where is the tilt/ trim sender?

I'll bump this to the top as well as I am also curious..

I have a older 72 Johnson, (100ESL72) and I have a tilt/trim guage..

I am guessing that the sender is just a variable resistor ??? if so, can I make one? or should I get a sender from a newer motor and adapt it???

Having seen that, I have never seen one so I am hoping someone can enlighten me as well.

regards

Frank

I have a 95 johnson the sending unit is a lever that goes up and down with the motor and is mounted right on the tilt/trim unit.

I have a 78 and the sender appears to be burried in the left hand side. Unable to work out from the manual just where it is. easiest way to find is least resistance is fully tilted and most is all whte way trimed. Appears to have 2 black wires going to the jumper block for the power trim tilt unit.

I found a used gauge and sending unit at www.usedoutboardparts.com/. All sending unit is is a varible resistor with an operating arm. There's two #10 drilled and tapped holes on port side of transom clamp, accessable with engine tilted all the way up. That's the way it is on Hooty's engine anyway.

c/6

Hooty
