More help needed, I have two Evinrude 50 hp, one of them is serial 50372B and
the other one don't know, but both look exactly same inside and out, anyway, these engines
died in exactly same fashion, they pop a conrod through the case and I wasn't even working them hard
What did I do wrong? and are they worth fixing or it will happen again?

To be quiet honest.. no..

if they both have clagged cases, neither of them has much to rebuild.. you need to replace almost all the expensive bits.. and they would never be worth what you'd spend rebuilding them..

I suppose if you can get the case weilded, and get a spare "rod" from one to put in the other, you could get one running. but I wouldn't buy it from you. :)

regards

frank

Volero.... Frank is right on the money with his suggestion. The engine(s) is a 1973 model, and the money you would need to spend to restore those engines would be prohibitive, and that's putting it mildly.

It's time to either quit boating or bite the bullet as the saying goes, and start anew.

For what it's worth, having two engines (I'm assuming that you have dual engines on one boat) throw connecting rods points to fuel that has a improper oil mixture. If not dual engines, that's a very strange encounter.

Re: Evinrude 50's

Joe and Frank, Thank for your feedback, I guess it would make sence to just forget about it and
get a new engine, for the record these two engines belong to different boats one on my dad's Volero Dart and the other on my Stylecraft 15 halfcab, and they died at different times within 6 or so months difference.
Its a bit of a dilema really to go for a $5k brand new engine for a $1k boat but giving up boating is pretty much out of the question, and to get a newer second hand or reco engine costs over $3k and you never know how long it'll last, what do you reckon?

Cheers

volero

Hi Volero,
If it helps ease the pain a bit, you might be able to part out the motors on eBay and recoup some fundage for a new motor. You've gotta figure that this time of year with all the flotsam floating around, Joe Boater is going to be knocking pylons, docks and tree stumps and might need a good used lower unit...
- Scott
