It's a 35 hp Johnson.Remote controlls with single function ,two lever controll. The ignition switch is built in to a panel board. When I get to the lake put it in the water it "pops" off just fine .The throddle is a little slow for five minutes or so.Move from spot to spot and that is when I have my problem with the restarting.I then have to use the rope to turn the fly wheel to start the motor . 1 pull and it starts right off.I think it is the starter but not sure .Thanks

Howdy, Rewster.

What happens when you try to start it electrically? Does this only happen when the engine is hot?

Let us know in much more detail what is happening.

When I turned the key it would just have a sound like a car with a bad battery with a rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr sound and it would finally start. It would turn over hard .Now it doesn't make a noise at all.I charged the battery which is just 2 yrs old and got the same results moving from spot to spot. The motor does not feel hot to the touch and the water is luke warm from the motor. The funny thing is ,is that it doesn't act up all the time it's speratic.

Howdy, Rewster.

Sounds like either a battery problem or a high current circuit problem.

Measure battery voltage while trying to start. If it reads over 9 volts go to next step. If not, replace the battery.

Measure voltage from hot lead on starter to the block. If it reads within 1 volt of the battery voltage you have a bad starter.

If neither of the above, disconnect and clean, then reconnect every connection of large guage wire. The most likely bad spot is where the battery ground lead connects to the block.

Let us know what you find. :)
