This motor I'm working on is a nice little motor and would be a nice upgrade for my fishing boat. I'm just wondering what it may be worth, It's not mine but I'm going to make this guy an offer. It's an '89, 8hp,pull start,20.5" shaft, with hydrofoils.

I'd just like a ball park figure. Thanks for all your help, I really enjoy this forum.

About $200 is a good ball park. Depends on how it has been maintained and what it needs...plus impellar the added foil does not really add value.

Bob

Tracker Marine (Bass Pro Shops) had Evinrude and Johnson private label engines for their boats back in 1988 and 1989 as I recall.

They are identical to regular production John/Rudes except for the decals.

The motor seems to run good, it doesn't like to idle but I think it's been in storage and just needs to be broke back in. I only got to run it for a little while today and it seems to be clearing up.

Puts my 5.5hp, '56 Evin. to shame. The power is unbelievable next to the old timer.

ShafferNY,

You should at least replace the impeller. It may need a carb. kit too.

What makes you say I should replace the impeller?

AGE .... Old age! (LOL be thankful humans don't have impellars - we would all be due!) Impellars should be replaced at least every other season or more seasonally depending on the water it has been in.

The rubber cracks and breaks down from age and or/use and you loose cooling ability. The impellars normally have age cracks (thats why you never reverse them)and the blades can break away.

A fairly simple job that will help your motor live to a ripe old age like all of us.

Bob

I usually only replace my impeller if I notice a difference in the water pumping out of the engine. I must have at least 4 seasons on the one I'm currently running.

One of the main factors for not changing it in my '56 5.5hp Evin. is that you have to remove the power head in order to drop the lower unit, not like the new motors that have an access hole for the shift linkage.
