During normal operation my 1968 55hp Evinrude was in neutral at an idle, engine made several
increases in the rpm's then stopped. Engine cranks over just fine and appears to be getting
fuel but no spark, I replaced the coil and checked points (like new, cleaned with alcohol and
reset gap to .010). With a voltmeter I check amplifier assembly (1500 scale) blue wire to coil
(unplugged) during cranking only read battery power (12.6). All connectors and ground look
good yet I see no spark coming from the plugs. With ignition key on I can unplug single black
wire going to points and amplifier will tick, does sound normal? If you hand turn flywheel you
can see points are opening and closing with an ohm meter connected to this single black wire.

Is there any other home test method to verify amplifier, as I'm not willing to depart with $300
on a guess.

points should be set at .020.

Fireman 757, I set them to .010 because there is what appears to be a factory yellow lable with black writting on the stator that reads "Point gap set .010". Although when I first pulled the flywheel and put each of the points on the high end of the lobe each of them still looked closed. It seems odd that it would be running perfectly prior to it stopping.

If you have the label then I'm sure that is correct. Seems odd what is going on. This should bump your post up and maybe Joe Reeves or JB might have an answer.
