1965 evinrude WHAT DID I DO NOW !!

I was going to take my old boat out because my other one is down. ( don't tell J reeves hes helping me with it and he will think im just a screw up..lol ) she started and was running fine had her almost ready to go. I decided I better check lower unit oil I was on the right side of motor. took out top plug was plane head screw took out bottom screw was philips head and smaller .( thought that was kinda odd )oil drained out fine filled her back up. went to put small screw back in it wouldn't go back in. guess what I found on very bottom of lower unit.THE DRAIN SCREW !!. WHAT IN THE WORLD HAVE I DONE NOW AND HOW DO I GET IT TO GO BACK IN ??<br /><br />PLZ HELP BEFORE JREEVES SEES THIS......LOL<br /><br />THANK YOU VERY MUCH CATFISH0

You removed the pivot pin that secures the shift lever in the lower unit. With some care, you can get it back in without opening the gearcase. Use a pick or nail and try to line up the hole, then insert the pivot pin back in a screw it up tight. Test the shift to make sure it goes in and out of gear, turning the flywheel or the prop as you move the lever. Then refill the gearcase using the fill hole that you discovered (with the slotted head).<br /><br />Good luck.

Catfish,many of us have done far worse in our probably not advertised F--- ups,so have a good laugh at yourself and go fishing!
