My engine is a RK24l with no generator. It has magnetic shift. When I picked up boat the wiring was in disarray. I have the cables and the motor manual. Wiring diagram in the latter sketchy.
Are the 12 volt electric start and generator kits still available for this unit?
The junction box I have is labeled Evinrude 12 volt starter.
I want to obtain the kits (elect.start/generator),
new cables, and schematic diagrams. I have the shift/speed control unit.
Also, there is a white wire coming out of the motor block near the lower spark plug.(mine has no connector on the end),I cannot find this wire in the manual schematics. Advise.
SFB

Bombardier has cut back on 40-year-old parts, but some dealers may still have them on the shelves.

There are always starters and generators being sold on eBay. Search under "Evinrude 40*" or "Evinrude 35*"

The starters are a common Prestolite model, so you may also be able to find retail sources.

I don't think that you need the generator. In a recent posting, several other owners agreed with me. Just charge the battery every two or three weeks from a common auto charger.

Do yourself a big favor and go to your local marine store and buy a Clymer's 1956-72 Johnson/Evinrude Repair Manual. It has all the wiring schematics.

Hello Samuel F Brown.
You can get everything you want used with some sort of garantee for about half the price at
www.twincityoutboards.com
Even so the starter should be your first priority.
Generator, regulator, enlarged solenoid/starter box, ammometer and belt, even used, will easily go up to 200 dollars, probably more. This will only charge your battery when you do better than 2000 rpm. This means that if you troll all day you will not have charged your battery at all
The fact is that you do not need them.A good sears trickle charger goes for less than 30 box and does it all for you while you sleep!
As for the white wire, does it go to the seven pronged plug? Sometimes a tachometer ground wire is added, other times a thermostat is added.
good luck
