Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cgi?prod_id=39283

Phil-
Since I put them on my boat, there really is no hole. I'm on plane under 2 seconds, and I can plane at lower speed. I used to shoot for the moon when I hit the throttle, now I get a slight bow rise and then it's just like driving a car. Nice and flat and easy to control. I haven't tried to "fine tune" mine yet, just left them at the factory recomendation. I'm sure it could only get better, but compared to how it was with the hyrdofoil, I'm more than satisfied.

Hey NautiJohn-
How about a commission check! I don't think I've ever talked about a product this much before. These things are great.

Dr.Phil;

You can check our web site WWW.Nauticusinc.com for more informantion.

You would need to give us more information before I could recommend the correct model and then the pricing. We need boat length and style, and motot HP and type.

As for top end - you should gain 2 to 4 MPH. This assumes that you have choosen the correct model and have made the appropriate adjustments to lift prssure.

rnsi;

We appreciate your kind remarks and most importantly the fact that you are so pleased with your Smart Tabs. It is not often that a manufacturer gets support from consumers like yourself, and it is truly gratifying. We have worked hard to provide both a product that serves the customer well, and to give after the sale service to support that product and the consumer.

Thanks a bunch for the support.

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

I Have a 1998 Promaster Bayboat with a 130 hp Johnson. It took 3 foot of water and about 10 seconds to plane off. I have been reading about these Smart Tabs On here for over a year. So I bought me a pair on this web site last month.(cheaper here than anywhere else by the way!!) Installed them, and Now my boat will plane in 1 1\2 foot of water, Takes only 4 seconds to plane and will stay on plane at 10mph, not to mention It took the porpuse out of the boat at top speed and now I can run wide open and trimmed out to the max with no bounce. It also handles better in corners, with the bathtub design of the hull it no longer skips around corners . These are the Most affordable and Best investment One can make On their boat.!!! BAR NONE!! Good luck!!!

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

rjarreau;

Thank you for the nice post. The worst thing about Smart Tabs is they do work so well that no one wants to believe it is true. As Boating World magazine said "it sounds like one of those too good to be true inventions" but they tested them and came up with the same results. They work!

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

"As Boating World magazine said"....

I'll wait until Powerboat Reports or some other source that doesn't take advertising says they are good.

Also I have a well-powered 24' boat (225 engine) - it planes very easily. It looks like I would need the biggest model for $200. And even then, the size recommendation chart seems to stop at 20'. I get the impression these are mainly useful for small underpowered boats.

Also my dock goes aground on some low tide cycles. As long as my o/b is tilted up, it's no big deal to let the hull sit in the mud. What happens if I have smart tabs? They get wrecked?

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

Swist;

You are in luck! You can now buy Smart Tabs! Actualy you could have bought them back in 2001 since Powerboats did their test in issue #2. If you would like i can send you a copy.

As for low tide issues - when the boat settles the tabs will simply get pushed up.

You will have two choices for your boat, If the boat length includes the swim platform, then go with the ST1290-80 (which we have used on many trailerable boat boats up to 26 ft.) in January of 2005 we will have ST1610-60 for boats up to 29 ft. These will come with dual actuators per Tab and have a List of $349.99 ( Likely to retail on Sale at $299.99.

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

So if I am running over 240 HP on a 25 foot boat (including swim platform) then I will have to wait for the 1610-60.......

I have been leaning towards the actuated trim tabs only because I am planning on increasing horse power over the years and at the higher HP I've been told that I will need to be able to control the tabs at high speed to prevent instability. Is my thinking correct?

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

Elk Chaser;

When you get into boats of this size the balance, gross weight, hull style all com into play with the choice of tabs. I would be glad to make a recomendation after discussing the specifics of your boat with you (800-233-0194). We want you happy, therefore the recommendation would be subject to more information.

As for controlling high speed stability, that is done with the built in adjustments. Once you are happy with the handling and performance, your done. It is like having a race car where you can tune the suspension to suite the conditions.

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

nautiJohn,

I have a 1988 Chapparall model 198XL. It is 19' long, and powered by an OMC sterndrive & 5.0L engine (230 horsepower)

I have a terrible time getting on plane. What model would you reccomend for this boat, where can I read about it (do you have a web site?), and it seems iboats has good prices, so do you know where to find info here?

Thanks

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

Jack L

Thank you for your interests!

Use Model # ST1290-80.

Our Webs site is www.NauticusInc.com and has plenty of info.

On iboats go to Mega Mall and search Smart Tabs.

If you wish to read more on this site under boating forums search Smart Tabs.

If you want to call for technical advice call 800-233-0194.

Also note that after 5 years we are forced to raise prices due to the increases in Stainless Steel cost. Other boat accessory manufacturers will, or have increased pricing as well. If you intend to buy anything related to Stainless Steel you may want to do so now and not wait until spring.

As of November 1, 2004 the Smart Tabs pricing will increase about 10% (ST1290-60 or ST1290-80 will go up to a List price of $219.99. Retail selling prices will differ from one to another but all will go up.

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

nautiJohn,
The motor is a 1989 15hp Evinrude (I have no idea how a 9.9hp cowl got on it sir :) ) with a 10x11p Pirhana prop (not modified), WOT is 6930rpm on that one, with it touching the rev limiter. If you check some of my other posts there are some other pics of the boat in action. I have a set of 13p blades that I drilled to induce ventilation during the holeshot. The holeshot is really something with those (instant 4200 rpm) and the top speed is nuts! (verified by underwear) The boat, motor, and full 3gallon tank weigh in around 155lbs.

Cheers,

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

nautiJohn,
Lets just say it's not the ride for people with a "nervous nature"

Have you ever done 32mph (GPS verified) in a 10ft inflatable? It will also tow a 200lb person on a kneeboard nicely (running a 10x9p, or a 9.5x10p prop) I have more fun and use it far more that I did any of my past boats. Not only that storage involves putting it on a shelf in my garage...

Cheers.

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

Snowdrggn;

At 32 mph I would not know if i should hold on or jump out! We have a 10' with a 9.9 and it does about 20 mph (gps). and that was an "E" ticket ride. (in the olden days at Disney Land the best rides were "E" ticket coupons.)

Re: Smart Tabs: What do they cost?

nautiJohn,
I laugh at the facial expression of a passenger when you're cruising along and come out of a fairly tight turn an twist it up another 1500-2000 rpm!! It kind of sounds a bit like a motocross bike when its near its top end.... It's a bit like a maniac towing you on a tube, with no boat or rope in site!! The Smart tabs allow it to stay on a plane at incredibly low speeds though which make it seem deceptively mellow until you open it up and all hell breaks loose...

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v48/Snowdrggn/Zodiac/Dscf0060.jpg

Cheers
