V6 seems to lose half after running fine for 40 minutes, with no overheat indication (long way from home). Can only restart by shifting quickly into gear and then it will run only within narrow RPM range, suggesting that the only half running is the half that is suppressed by the shift suppression switch (or equivalent in this model). Is there a shop manual for these models available? I'm guessing based on old 85 manual. I would guess power pack if there were still two, but I assume these models have only one. Any advice on simple troubleshooting would be welcome

Sunbaked,
Is your motor equipped with the S.L.O.W. system? Forget that manual for the 85's,it does not apply to your motor. There are OMC manuals available through your dealer or you can get a Clymer manual(#B737)to cover your motor.I have a parts catalog only covering your motor(not for sale). If you need part#'s,e-mail me. :)
Make sure that motor is pumping water and getting oil...

Sounds like reel appeal is right on with the S.L.O.W.When detecting overheat situation it will cut your rpms back to around 2500 to protect engine. As he mentioned I would check out cooling system.Water pump, thermostats.

Sorry not to get back to Reel Appeal and OB, but do want to thank you for the help. Impeller was torn up and pumping irratically. Looks like I might have to check that heat warning horn circuit, too. Thanks again. :)
