Have heard bad things about 150 ficht motor.Take that with grain of salt .Not from owning experience

I ASKED THE SAME POST ON A DIFFERANT FORUM. AND ALOT 98 AND 97 FICHT OWNERS CAMEBACK SAYING THEY WERE GOOD. BUT MOST OF THEM ALSO REPLACED THE POWER HEAD. THEY CLAIMED THE POWER HEAD FAILERS WERE DO TO OPERATER ERRORS NOT MACHANICAL.THIS IS A VERY TUFF CALL.

I think we discussed the 150 Ficht with all the retro stuff and it's probably an o-k engine but I'd take the 225 just because it's bigger and bigger is usually faster.<br /><br />c/6<br /><br />Hooty

My son-in-law's '98 Ficht 150 blew up twice. He now has a carbed Johnny 150.<br /><br />I would avoid Fichts from '97 to 2000.<br /><br />Good luck.

Id avoid a ficht, I just replaced the second powerhead on a customers boat, list price w/o labor was $8300.00... plus labor.

Actually I did some research and the original concept was invented by Wolfgang Heimburg ,An east German engineer .He developed it to clean the name up of a exaust spewing auto during the cold war.It utilized a Hydraulic method of injecting fuel .His idea never saw mass introduction until fall of iron curtain.The rights to patent were bought eventually by you know who and the rest is history.So ,I'm assuming the term FICHT has his name and possibly hydraulic and fuel injection incorporated into it somehow.The article never said exactly what it stood for.Probably sorry you asked huh?
