Johnson 130 Check Engine Warning

My Check Engine Warning light and horn are coming on at startup and the light remains on constant. This is a 2000 Johnson 130 hp 4 cylinder (carburated). I'm told that this model doesn't use the Check Engine indicator and that it is used to determine fuel problems with the larger models. Any ideas where I should start to trouble shoot the problem (wiring, gauge, etc.) ? Also I occasionally have a high idle condition about 2,100 rpms that is intermitent and seems to be electrial vs. mechanical or sticking linkage. Thanks

What does your owner's manual say on the "Check Engine" topic?

Re: Johnson 130 Check Engine Warning

Thanks for the reply. My manual says to have the dealer check it out, which I did right away and after he started checking fuel restriction, water in fuel etc. he realized that this model might not use that feature of the gauge. He also called his factory rep. to confirm this. It alarmed me when the warning started because a friend with a Johnson 150 6 cyl. fihct (fuel injected) engine had the warning and it was water in the system which I understand can be serious with the injectors.<br />What I'm thinking is that there could be a guage problem or a grounded wire in the harness that goes back to the engine to a dead end. I don't want to disturb the other functions of the gauge (high temp., low oil and no oil) or the warning lights or horn for those functions. I don't want to replace that gauge needlessly either to see if thats the problem. Thanks for the reply.
