my old 1965 6hp johnson has got some problems lately .
at first it ran great , but when the engine was hot it would not restart , i had to wait for about 5 minutes and then it started .
but today i went out and it started , but bogged down immediately , and would not restart for a while , and when it finaly did it bogged down again and again .
when it bogs down fuel is comming out of the carb , and it looks like the engine is flooding .
i checked the spark plugs the upper was black .
and i have another question what is suppose to go through the hose that is placed vertical on the side of the powerhead , i see fuel going through is that good ??

Gerke.... It's time to remove, clean, and rebuild the carburetor on that engine. The vertical line you ask about is a main bearing lubrication feed line.

thanks joe

but that vertical line filling whit gasoline is that ok , and i forgot to mention that the engine creates a lot of white smoke , even under the cover .

Is the motor overheating? AND I really am not sure fo I will leave this comment to the experts but what oil/gas ratio are you running? I would also check the qaulity of the gas.

Joe Reeves....back to you!

Bob

hi bob

i'm running on a mixture of 1:50 , i think that's what they reccommend .
the gas is brandnew , so i think that's ok .
and about the engine overheating i think it's not even warmed up when this happens .
oh and i think the smoke under the cover comes out of the carburator .

Hooty concurs with Joe Reeves. Either needles and seats are leaking, floats are out of adjustment or all the above.

c/6

Hooty

Re: won't keep running , now what ???

i took the carb off and cleaned it up and put it together again . and yesterday i gave it a try .
but there was no change , so i took the carb off and had a look at what we (in holland ) call the membramen ,wich i had done earlier this week but it seemed ok at the time . but what i saw now whas a metal o ring stuck between one of the membramen , the o ring came off the lean rich knob i put it there myself whit a spring to stop the knob from turning from vibrations of the engine , anyway i took the o ring out and put the carb on , and it runs like a champ again .

thanks for al the help you gave .
