I never went through the repower process,I currently have twin 1992 johnson 150's and am looking to repower to a new single 250 evinrude. My current engines run good and start right up and local (johnson evinrude) mechanic says they have many good years left, I want to change to the newer technology (ficht) for better trolling and fuel effinciency etc.. and just get "new" power. what Im wondering is , is it common for dealers to take my 1992's as some trade in or will they laugh at me if I ask.If they give me peanuts for them is it hard to sell 1992 twin counter rotating johnsons? I know these questions are broad just wondering if anyone went through a similar process and what they ended up doing thank you<br /> Manny

Re: repowering

I would see what they offer on a NET trade...which is not unreasonable. These motor have some value; period. You may not get what you think because it's a little bit like remodeling an house...ya gotta take the old stuff off before you put the new stuff on...double rigging. Get a repower price from at least three dealers. If your able to pull old motors off clean with no damage and all electrical parts together then you could advertize on eBay...now your into shipping, time, proving their good, etc. I personally would get the best NET price to repower and not put up with the hassel. You best price will be with a Johnson dealer, I'll bet; because he will have the best change to unload old ones. ;)
