Hi All<br /> I just bought this old johnson 40 super<br />sea - horse,what year is it?<br /># 308608 I found this number on top of motor<br />near the heads,Any info would be greatly appreciated.<br /> thanks steve

Hello.<br />On the top of the transom mount there should be a plate with the model # and the serial # .<br />In order to find out the year we really need the model #<br />Good luck.

Thanks For reply,<br /> I can see where ID plate was over a leaver<br /> to tip the motor, gone now the cover for the motor has a large chrome ring around a chrome plate look's like a target, Does this help ID <br />it with in a few years, The motor seams to be in <br />good shape, I bought it ( as is ) for a 100,00 $ <br /> I know it will fire up it kicked over then <br />i pulled cord, no gas line to it I did not want <br />to start it dry.<br /> Thanks again<br /> River Run

Without the model no it is tough to get exact, If you can give us the color of the motor we can narrow it down to a range of years. Around '56 are green, 58,59 maroon, 60, 61, white and so on.
