Re: 1976 evinrude 115 hp outboard

On my slightly older Johnson, I have a switch on the control box that activates the choke..

I don't use it.. it has nowhere near the effect of the manual choke on the front of the cowling..

pull that puppy out all the way to turn the choke on, put it in the middle to turn it off, and push it all the way in for Automatic choke. (which I don't use.)

regards

Frank

All the way in on a 115 is "choke off", the middle position is "automatic" which allows activation from the control box and all the way out is manual choke "on".

Activate the choke from the remote and make sure both choke butterflys (forward set) are closing completely. Some minor adjustment may be needed.

Good luck!

yeah, think mine is the same, can never remember for sure unless I take the cowling off and look.

sorry, I typed it the wrong way around..

my electric choke on the controller doesn't fully close the butterflies, even though it is adjusted to open as far as possible. thats why I got in the habbit of doing it manually.

rgds

Frank

If the butterflys dont close all the way, move the solenoid down to cause the plunger to move further thereby closing the butterflys completely. The butterflys need to seat before the plunger bottoms out in the solenoid.

Also make sure the base plate gaskets arent hittiing the butterflys and not allowing them to close completely. Kinda rare but it has been known to happen.

Good luck!
