Brenda, Your motor is a 1984 model 60hp rude w/ short shaft ,trim and tilt electric start.I owned a 1983 model 60 hp.There are no inherent problems with this motor if maintained well.

Welcome, Brenda NZ. Let me suggest that the first thing you do is to buy a manual for your motor. You can get them from iboats or the manufacturer. You have a good, dependable motor if it's maintained properly and the manual is a good place to start learning.

Re: Evinrude 60hp tips

Brenda , Sounds like problem you are having is symptom of carburetors in need of cleaning or linkage out of adjustment.A good manual will walk you through the procedure for both and familiarize you with the specifics of your particular motor.Gummed carburetor jets and porting are among the most common problems faced with outboards that are not used on a regular basis or are not "off seasoned" prepared properly to prevent such.
