No color codes on a OMC rectifier.

I had a question about my batteries not charging on a '94 Johnson 88spl a couple of weeks
ago. So I finally received the rectifier that I ordered from Outboardparts.com. Problem is, looking
at my motor, one of the yellow wires has a grey stripe on it. The generic part(6-10 amp rectifier 3-wire OMC)
that I received has both yellow wires( none with any stripes). Is it okay to reverse these two wires when hooking it
up? The last thing I want to do is fry my electrical system. Thank you for your reply.

There is a color code at www.brokeboats.com
May at least identify what those wires do.
This is only a guess but if they are the ac input
from the charging circuit the position doesnt matter.

Glad I hit refresh before submit.
steelespike... you looking over my shoulder? ;)
I would add that the DC leads do make a difference.

The yellow wires are AC voltage. It does not matter if you cross them. Just hook the yellow wires up.

RK..... On the rectifiers that DO have a yellow/gray wire, it does make a difference where you hook up that wire. However, on the later model 3 wire rectifiers which DO NOT have a yellow/gray wire, it makes NO DIFFERENCE which yellow wire connects to the stator yellow/gray wire terminal.

Is it possible that I bought the wrong part?Outboards.com say's its for 1989-96 88hp 10amp
with trim(oe#582399,583408) which basically is for all 88hp Johnson outboards.

RK...... Unless you have the Water Cooled Voltage Regulator/Rectifier type which would sit on top of the block just in back of the flywheel, you have the correct rectifier.

That small three (sometimes four) wire rectifier is used on many 2, 3, 4, and 6 cylinder OMC engines.
