fisherman year and hp rating

Can somebody identify the year of manifacture and hp rating of an Evinrude Fisherman model # 6402c serial # A10433 please. Also it jumps out of forward gear when I give it anything more than light throttle, the prop and pin seem ok, how difficult is it to take off the lower section of this motor to find out the problem?

Your Fisherman is a 1974 year model 6HP. Its not hard to take apart. Check the shift linkage for correct adjustment before tearing down the lower.

Thanks for that Trent. Forgive me for being ignorant as this is my first repair but how do I check for correct adjustment? ie it starts where its supposed to and shifts where its supposed to - is that what you mean or do I have to do it a bit more technically?

Hi Marc 12<br /><br />The 6 HP fisherman is a brilliant motor. You can only check if the shifter arm moves the shifting rod all the way into forward, Is neutral in the middle of the shifting movement ? Move the lever a little bit foreward and reverse, while you turn the propeller a little by hand. Notice if it rests in neutral in the middle between it hits f/r gears. If it does so, it is probably a worn clutch "dog" in lower gear unit, one of the few failures these models have once and in a while.<br /><br />While you are at it, change the impeller if it hasnt been done the last few years. Get a manual first.
